Hello, I am Louvain! I am a social historian, writer and all-around graveyard ghoul living in Wales.

Although I have been writing about the history of Bridgend (and now the wider area) since 2012, I work as a social historian specialising in Death and working-class histories in Wales. My primary research interests are paupers, poor law, lunacy, and poverty between 1790 and 1921. You can read more about my work here.

I use this little corner of the World Wide Web to share my historical research and ramblings. I write about historic buildings, churchyards, people and whatever takes my fancy.

For the most part, I like to write about people. I like to look at a gravestone, a photograph or a historical document and have some concept of who that person was, what they did and what their life was like.

There's no real aesthetic to my substack. I'll share everything from churchyards to dusty documents and anything I find interesting!

I hope that you will enjoy my historical ramblings!
